Given that the shotgun is sort of the natural enemy of the zombie due to how effectively it can blow a man’s head off, Leon has made use of the mossberg on several occasions. There do exist quick reload clips but these are somewhat clunky to use and can jam the shotgun. Having to load the individual shells can also be time consuming. While the Mossberg still sees use because it’s just that reliable, it is slowly becoming outdated. We live in an age where we have semi-auto and full auto shotguns, some of which have been adopted by law enforcement. Another potential issue, these days at least, is the rate of fire. ![]() This is a shotgun so it’s range is limited to short to mid-range so it’s ideal for urban or indoor combat. Two factors that generally don’t go together. Part of the reason the Mossberg became so popular was due to the reliability of the weapon and low cost. The lower chamber can hold between 6 and 8 rounds depending on the size of the barrel and fires standard buckshot shells or slugs. When the weapon is pumped, a shell from the chamber is loaded into the barrel while simultaneously ejecting the empty shell. One serves as a chamber for the shells while the other is the barrel from which they are fired out of. The Mossberg is a pump action weapon that sports two barrels. For our purposes today, we will be looking at how the weapon is used by Leon Kennedy of Resident Evil fame. ![]() It was invented in 1961 by Carl Benson who intended for it to be a hunting shotgun but due the sheer effectiveness of the weapon, it would become a popular choice for law enforcement and even some military operators. The Mossberg 500 is a pump action shotgun that has appeared in a variety of games and media in general over the years. ![]()
